Todd Matthy has held an interview with the writer of the 1986 Transformers: The Movie, Ron Friedman, which he has posted onto his blog. The interview coverd Friedman's approach to writing the movie script, reveals his reservations about killing off Optimus Prime and more. Click here to read the full article. Below you will find Todd's introduction to what is a very interesting piece
In the summer of 1986, children were traumatized when Optimus Prime sacrificed himself to stop his archrival, Megatron. But it wasn’t Megatron who pulled the trigger, it was a writer named Ron Friedman.
Ron Friedman wrote Transformers: The Movie. He wrote the five-part miniseries that launched GI Joe. He is close friends with Stan Lee and helped Stan develop The Marvel Action Hour, featuring Iron Man and Fantastic Four. He has written episodes of All in the Family, Happy Days, and Fantasy Island. In addition to his writing credentials, Ron is an architect and a teacher at Chapman University.
In 2014, Ron plans to chronicle his experiences as a writer in the memoir, I Killed Optimus Prime. The book promises a fascinating look behind the scenes of the shows that defined our childhood.
I had the privilege of speaking with Ron about his career, his friendship with Stan Lee, what he thought when he first saw the Transformers, how Orson Welles became Unicron, and why he didn’t want to kill Optimus Prime.
So, to kick off the 30th Anniversary of the Transformers, Ron Friedman, the man who killed Optimus Prime.
The Miyazawa Fall exhibition is taking place in Japan at the moment and along with the various licensed model kits which the company has been producing for a long time the CM Corp licensed PVC Exo-Suit with Spike and Daniel as well as a tiny PVC Unicron / Galvatron hybrid which based "Grand Galvatron" from the Headmasters 2010 series which combined Galvatron's limbs onto Unicron's planet mode.
You can view more images from the event over on the AmiAmi Blog, though some images may NSFW (Not Safe For Work) depending on the policies at your work. There is no nudity but suggestive and provocatively created models.
CMCorp has announced that they are producing a G1 themed exo-suit complete with Spike and Daniel figures based on the Generation One cartoon series. The Exo-suits were first used in Transformers: The Movie with these figure wil be shown off at the upcoming Summer WonderFestival in Japan. The image which has been released has been pixelated to disguise the figure, though it's obvious what it is
Paul Hitchens has updated The Spacebridge's Facebook page with another reconstructed deleted scene from the 1986 Transformers: The Movie animated feature film. This latest video is the original sequence which was planned for Ultra Magnus' death. Readers of the Marvel comics adaptation will recognise the way Magnus meets his end but this confirms that it was the original way in which he was going to be killed.
If you would like to see further recreations like this then we encourage you to head over to the Space-Bridge page on Facebook and like it to help show Paul your appreciation of the material he is sharing.
Paul Hitchens has put together a fantastic reconstruction of a deleted scene from the Transformers: The Movie which he has shared on his The Spacebridge page over on Facebook. The video, which is on YouTube, shows what happens between Optimus Prime ploughing through the Decepticons and then coming face-to-face with Megatron. Here is Paul to give a better explanation
"Here is a video I made of one of the deleted scenes from the 1986 Transformers movie. It's made using a set of production used storyboards I own. I have included a section of the film either side so you can see where it would have fit in. I believe this scene was animated as it exists in very late production notes & music was written to accompany it. It was cut as Nelson Shin felt it ruined the flow of Primes attack leading up to his battle with Megatron. Ultra Magnus, Tracks, Sideswipe & Red Alert were picked to attack Devastator as they all have rocket launchers. It also explains what Megatron was looking at when Prime found him. Hope you like"
Transformers Movie Presentation and Q&A With Paul Eiding at Auto Assembly 2012
At Auto Assembly, for the last few years we've traditionally had a showing of the 1986 animated Transformers movie as part of the weekend programme at the convention. Fans have found that there has been nothing better than watching this classic film amongst a group of other fans but this year we're doing something very special...
On the Friday evening we will be holding a special presentation of the animated Transformers movie which will be preceeded by a short introduction by G1 voice actor Paul Eiding. Paul will then be joining us to watch the movie and he will then take to the stage for a short Q&A session afterwards to answer any questions that our attendees may have about the film and his work on it! This is a fantastic opportunity for our attendees to watch what is arguably the best of all of the Transformers movies alongside one of its cast members in the friendly relaxed atmosphere that only Auto Assembly can offer.
Remember that the Friday night programme is ONLY for those of you who have a weekend ticket for the convention so if you haven't already registered, book now to see this bonus Q&A Panel! If you have already booked but only have a one day pass, get in touch to find out how you can upgrade your tickets to be able to see all our Q&A Panels taking place over the weekend.

I have updated the website with an image gallery of the latest additional to our ever-expanding collection, the Toy Hobby Market exclusive, "Welcome to Transformers 2010" Universal Dominator Unicron figure. The toy is a heavily recoloured Armada Unicron with a new head sculpt based on the 1986 Transformers: The Movie cartoon. If I were to sum up the toy in one word that world would be AMAZING. TakaraTomy not only gave the figure a much improved head, but the new colour scheme vastly improved what was already a pretty good toy. The figure is painted in such a way that it highlights many of the details that were hidden on the previous version of the mold.
The image gallery includes comparison photographs with the Armada version of the toy as well as the Lucky Draw Green Unicron figure that we own. You will also see side-by-side comparison images of the mini-cons to highlight the differences with Dead-End as well.
The following is the latest press release by Metrodome concerning their Transformers: The Movie Ultimate Edition set.
THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE (ULTIMATE EDITION)
Hi all!
As you are no doubt aware, murmurings of Metrodome's re-release of
Transformers have been circulating within the Transformers fan base
over the past year and fan sites have been rife with speculation. We
announced just before Christmas, that Transformers the Movie - The Ultimate Edition
will be released in June 2007 and we wanted to take this opportunity to
update the fans and answer a few questions that we have seen crop up
over the past few months.
First and foremost the Ultimate Edition will boast a widescreen picture
that has been fully remastered with a progressive PAL to PAL conversion
from the original negative and put through a rigorous colour correction
process to ensure that the movie is the best it has ever looked. To see
comparisons of the Ultimate Edition screenshots against older versions
of the movie please log on to www.transformersdvd.com and view them in the Download Section.
In addition to a stunning picture, we have created a brand new 5.1
soundtrack for the movie. After the release of Reconstructed a few
issues were raised by fans objecting to the extraneous sound effects
that were introduced into the soundtrack and we have taken this into
full consideration for the new audio. Chris McFeely, Transformers
expert has painstakingly gone through Reconstructed and picked apart
the soundtrack, highlighting the offending sounds and his report has
helped us to create a 5.1 mix far more in tune with the original audio
of the movie.
At this point in time the Ultimate Edition's extra feature plans are
still ongoing, but we can reveal that we are currently in talks with
Nelson Shin (Director) Flint Dille, (Story Consultant) and Peter Cullen
(the voice of Optimus Prime). A single disc and double disc edition
will be released containing commentaries, interviews, alternate/deleted
footage, DVD Rom material and much, much more.
Finally, we can reveal that Scramble City, the "lost" Japanese Takara
episode will be featured on the Ultimate Edition. Scramble City was
only broadcast in Japan to bridge the gap between the first and second
series of Generation One and we are pleased to be able to present it
for the first time on DVD in its original form.
With everything falling into place for this Ultimate Edition, we'll be
sure to keep you updated on news and extras in future newsletters. In
the meantime, remember to preorder Transformers the Movie - The
Ultimate Edition.
Chris McFeely has posted some screen shots comparing four different versions of Transformers: The Movie, on DVD, including images from the up-coming Transformers: The Movie Ultimate Edition by Metrodome.
The images include comparison's to Sony's 20th Anniversary set released last year.
Here's the latest press release from IDW regarding it's Transformers: The Animated Movie issue 2 Transformers: The Animated Movie #2

The Allspark have a YouTube video of the sneak peak for next years Transformers Movie which came with the Transformers: The Movie DVD released by Sony. The video contains the original teaser trailer as well as a few behind the scenes clips and short interviews with Michael Bay, Roberto Orci and Robert Kurtzman.
Thanks to The Allspark and TFans (TFormers message board), the first Easter Egg from the new Transformers: The Movie DVD has been reveiled.
"At the title screen, make sure the top option (bonus features) is
selected, then push your left arrow button on your DVD remote twice,
which will highlight the bottom option (Play) in the menu, then it will
highlight the faction symbol on the title screen (It switches from
Autobot to Deciepticon). Pushing 'enter' on your remote while the
faction symbol is highlighted will start the Easter Egg.
Spolier Three Japanese Diaclone toy commercials - Convoy, the bots
that would become the first series Autobots (Jazz, Bluestreak, etc),
and the bots that would become the Constructicons/Devastator."
Seibertron have a report that the next re-released of Transformers: The Movie (that's the animated film not the Transformers Movie due out next year), has been delayed in the UK until March 2007.
The UK has already seen several versions of Transformers: The Movie released, including Metrodome's "Wide Screen" edition, so sales of the DVD are not expected to be Earth shattering when it's finally released.
Hasbro Inc submitted a trademark application for
BATTLE BEASTS
