In an interview with MTV,
IDW Editor-in-Chief Chris Mowry has revealed a little more regarding the five part Transformers: Destiny series that IDW will be releasing. The key points of the article are yet further confirmations that both Soundwave and Arcee will appear within the live action movie, as well as other fan-favourites, and that "The Fallen" will indeed be a character and not just a reference to the returning Decepticons.
"[We're going to] explore the background of The Fallen — the main villain of the
movie — as well as expand on the ‘Reign of Starscream’ story that we’re doing
and tie everything in to what this next movie is going to be,” explained writer
Chris Mowry, who partners on the book with artist Alex Milne. “The next movie
starts out with just tons of action and there’s obviously going to be a lot of
questions, so we’re hoping to answer some of those beforehand.”
At the
end of “Transformers,” audiences were treated to a grand speech from Optimus
Prime issuing the call for his off-world Autobots to head to Earth. We also saw
Starscream blast into space after the defeat of his leader Megatron. So where
did he go? Mowry’s “Reign of Starscream” miniseries — currently on shelves —
answers that question and leads directly into “Destiny.”
“We’re
definitely taking every character that we can from the sequel,” said Mowry. “So
you’ll see some Sector 7 involvement and how they developed into a new group
that will be introduced. The same thing with some of the new characters, we’ll
explain how they get to Earth. Because like I said, [the sequel] starts out with
this giant battle so people will be wondering ‘Hey, where did that guy come
from?’”
While Mowry has yet to have direct contact with “Transformers:
Revenge of the Fallen” screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, he counts
himself as one of the lucky few to have a complete script. That’s important to
keep his story in continuity, Mowry stated, as well as to ensure he’s not
stepping on the film’s plotlines. “We had this really ambitious script done
where there were a lot of fan-favorites in there. [But] some of them are going
to be making an appearance in the second movie so they asked us not to use
those, which is understandable.”
Two of those fan-favorite characters are
Soundwave and Arcee, both of whom find themselves recruited for the sequel.
“[Starscream]’s more of like a military guy. So in ‘Destiny’ we’re going to see
a lot more involvement with [the backgrounds of] Prime and Megatron, [as well
as] Cybertron’s history and how that affects the present day. It all centers
around the plot of the sequel which I obviously can’t get into. It’ll be
explained but you’ll see a lot more expansion of their characters and their
motivations and their destinies, if you will."

Simon Furman has updated his blog with some information on the IDW Hardhead spotlight.
Incoming from IDW this week (Wednesday 16th in the US, 17th in the UK) is Transformers Spotlight: Hardhead, the second part of the awesome Revelation
cycle. Way back in Spotlight: Nightbeat, the titular Autobot
investigator journeyed to a planet called Gorlam Prime, and straight
into the jaws of a trap set by the denizens of the Dead Universe
(Nemesis Prime et al). Nightbeat emerged with his memories wiped and a
ticking time-bomb (not literally) in his head. Now, he’s back on Gorlam
Prime—along with Hardhead, the Autobots’ blunt, taciturn, no-nonsense
“problem-solver”—looking for answers. What they find is a vast, far
reaching conspiracy, a universe-sculpting plan many meta-cycles in the
making about to kick in big time, oh and Micromasters… lots of ‘em!
Why’s Hardhead along for the ride? Well, let’s just say that he’s
Nightbeat’s insurance policy. Those of you after a happy ending may
want to look away now!! Plus, more on the sudden resurgence of
Thunderwing, the return of the Wreckers, more on Arcee’s quest and much
more on the Dead Universe Transformers and the secrets of the
Expansion. Bad as things have been for the Autobots of late, they’re
about to get exponentially worse! Let the carnage begin! Spotlight:
Hardhead is written by me with art from Nick Roche (which absolutely
has to be seen to be believed, it’s that good!). For news and updates
on all IDW’s Transformers titles, check out their website here, and for a four-page preview of Hardhead, courtesy of Newsarama, go here. EJ Su’s cover art (part of an interlocking set) can be seen by clicking on the thumbnail below.

Mr Transformers, Simon Furman, has updated his blog with a entry on issue 13 of the UK exclusive Transformers Comic from Titan Magazines. The entry talks about how issue 13 contains the final part of Twilight’s Last Gleaming, that is part 5, and how from issue 13 onwards there will be an additional page of an original UK strip per issue. As Simon posts, issue 5 "sees not one but two epic showdowns: Prime versus
Megatron (the rematch!) and Ratchet/Ironhide versus a whole platoon of Decepticon drones (under the command of Bonecrusher)". The comic is officially released tomorrow, here within the UK, so you can expect a review and some images in the next 72 hours right here at Transformers At The Moon.

Transformers writer Simon Furman have posted a new blog entry regarding the upcomign IDW release Transformers Spotlight: Cyclonus which is released this Wednesday (18th) in the US and Thursday (19th) in the UK.
But, as well as being part 1 of 4, it’s also a Spotlight, and the
character focus falls, first and foremost, on Cyclonus. But who is
IDW/TF-verse Cyclonus? Given the recent IDW reinvention of Galvatron
(in Spotlight Galvatron) it can’t be the animated movie version (as
there’s no Unicron). This Cyclonus is, nevertheless, associated to
Galvatron, inasmuch as both are/were part of the crew of the (long
missing) first Ark. But who is Cyclonus and why’s he back on Cybertron
(now a ruined, largely uninhabited husk)? And why exactly is he taking
out his considerable frustrations on Hound’s unit (comprising
Sideswipe, himself the subject of a latter Spotlight in this quartet,
Warpath, Road Rocket and Skram)? And how does Ultra Magnus get drawn
into the action? And what’s that stirring inside a cave on Corata-Vaz?
Something BIG, something terribly familiar (especially if you’ve been
following the various IDW/TF arcs of late). The Expansion (whatever
THAT is) is upon us, and the storm is well and truly raging!

Chris Ryall updated his blog twice yesterday with the second update about a Apocalypse Comics exclusive cover for IDWs All Hail Megatron issue 1. The cover is drawn by Casey Coller with colours by Josh
Perez. The cover is a homage to the classic Brian Bolland BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE image. The cover has extra meaning for Casey as he had to draw this in the wake of the death of his sister through Cancer. Our condolences go out to Casey and his family.
