I thought I would share a little piece of my personal history with you all today. At the moment I am preparing to move home and whilst sorting through some drawers I came across the book that my brother and I use to note down when ever we bought an action figure, primarily Transformers, and so I thought I would bring you an "On this day in history" moment.
On this day back in 1999 we purchased some Pretenders. The figures we bought that day were Catilla, Snarler, Bludgeon, Stranglehold, Pincher, Longtooth, Finback, Iguanus and Bugly (I'm pretty sure we also got DoubleHeader at the same time, but he is missing from the book). We were fans of the pretenders, though the concept was controversial, we liked the designs behing many of the shells and I remember it was a happy day to finally get some of the US wave 2 figures as well as toys of characters that we loved from the Marvel UK days.
Two years later, Jan 29th 2001, we picked up another Transformers figure, this time in the shape of Transmetal 2 Blackarachnia.

Jim Sorenson updated his blog on Tuesday with a new Ark Addendum entitled Ratbat's Transform. As you can probably guess from the title, the article focuses on the transformation sequence for the Generation One Decepticon cassette Ratbat.
Here's an update from Jim, "this week I finish up my cassette transformations. I give you...
Ratbat! It's a simple transformation. He basically unfolds, much like
the toy. The big difference is that his weapons pop out of his back,
instead of being attached manually. And one final reminder: we've got a book signing for The AllSpark Almanac Addendum this Saturday at Emerald Knights Comics & Games in Burbank. 1:00 PM on December 10th.4116 W. Burbank Blvd, Burbank, CA 91505"

In a guest post over on Jim Sorenson's blog, Disciples of Boltax, Monzo has posted an article reference and re-producing some storyboards from the first ever cartoon episode of Transformers, More Than Meets The Eye, that were sold on Heritage Auctions way back in 2002. The images show some high resolution scans of ten pages of storyboards which make some interesting analysis.
You can check out the blog here.

7 days ago Jim Sorenson updated his blog,
The Disciples of Boltax, with another new Ark Addendum. The post was titled
The Ark Addendum - The Insecticon Syndrome (Part 1) and, as the name suggests, it covered character models from the debut episode of the Insecticons in the Generation One cartoon.

Jim Sorenson has updated his blog, Disciples of Boltax, with the transformation sequence for the trainbot Yukikaze. Previously Jim has posted the transformation sequences for four other members of the Trainbots, Shouki, Getsui, Seizan and Suiken but he is missing the sequence for Kaen and the gestault form Raiden. We will check through our own character / model sheets to see if we have the missing pages but in the meantime here is Jim's thoughts on the character.
BTW, Yukikaze translates roughly to "Snow Breeze." It's a fairly common
name in Anime and Manga, especially for cold-based characters. The
name itself would be reused in Beast Wars II as the space ship
(non-sentient) for the Maximals.

Our thanks go out to Rohan Mohindra, Bluestreak56, for submitting the following news
"I was just doing some BW research on Depth Charge and came across a good old G1 fav Devcon. To no surprise he was voiced by John Stephenson (very similar to Windcharger's tones) and I was saddened to learn from wikipedia that he passed away just 10 days ago.
John voiced many G1 characters including:
Alpha Trion
Bosch
Devcon
Hector Ramirez
Huffer
Kup
Professor Haley
Thundercracker
Windcharger
Of all the voice actors who participated in all four seasons of the G1 cartoon, John Stephenson was the only one who did not lend his voice to The Transformers: The Movie.
I particularly enjoyed his Windcharger, Kup, Thundercracker and Devcon voices..
Thanks John"

The true legendary scribe of Transformers, Simon Furman, have updated his blog with a small entry regarding the SDCC announcement by IDW that Transformers #81 will indeed be published with a special 20 part run (issue 80.5 through 100) with the original Generation One crew of Simon Furman and Andrew Wildman back on board. Here is Simon's post
"Announced live yesterday at San Diego Comicon — the original
Marvel Transformers comic series (cancelled back in 1991 at issue #80)
is being continued by IDW Publishing, thanks in large part to an online
fan petition (big shouts for Luke and Ron of the IDW forums) and the
tireless efforts of IDW EiC Chris Ryall. Transformers (‘classic’) will
(re-) launch in Spring 2012 with issue 80 and a half, and reunites the
previous writer/artist team of myself and Andrew Wildman. The
reinvigorated run will build to a monumental 100th issue conclusion,
pulling together and tying up every dangling plotline you can think of
and a whole lot you can’t! What else can I tell you about the series?
Nada. Niente. Zilch. So don’t ask. For the time being anyway we’re
keeping this tightly under wraps. But it is going to shatter your
trousers! Guaranteed! "
Do not forget that Simon Furman and Andrew Wildman will both be in attendance at Auto Assembly next month in Birmingham where you can give them your reactions in person

Jim Sorenson has updated his blog Disciples of Boltax with a new entry that continues on from last weeks update on Desertion of the Dinobots. As you could probably guess the entry is titled "The Ark Addendum - Desertion of the Dinobots (part 2)" and contains more character sheets from that episode of the show.
Here's a preview of the article Jim wrote that accompanies the blog entry, but you can find the full post here.
"Part one gave us a nice survey of some Earthly structures. This time,
we had to Cybertron! We'd previously seen the surface of Cybertron, in
episodes like More than Meets the Eye and Divide and Conquer. This time, we go much deeper, seeing some mining pits and computer screens."
