Transformers Comic News

Simon Furman has updated his blog with an entry entitled Cougar Coverage in which he gives a breif update on the current state of the Cougar comic.

Okay, first things first. The comic is still a long way off. Though Cougar #1 is written (and pencilled, largely), there’s a whole lot more needs to be done before there’s a locked in on sale date. Studio Cougar remain committed to the character/project, but the logistics of getting the comic out there and in the hands of general comics buyers need more looking at. Stuff is happening but slowly. I remain hopeful that sometime in 08 there’ll be an actual, physical comic. In the meantime, here’s a look at a brand spanking new poster/litho featuring Cougar, Kickstart and the bad guys by Jeremey Tiongson (art) and Jukka Issakainen (colour). Click on the thumbnail to enlarge (a bit). Oh, and one more update, due to work committments(and stuff) I won’t be at Collectormania Manchester this coming weekend. Apologies to anyone who was banking on my being there.

Transformers Comic NewsSimon Furman has updated his blog with information on the comic for TFAuctions Mascot Cougar. As well as linking to the Studio Cougar website, where there is a small graphic preview, Mr Furman posted the following.

Well, I promised you an update on the Cougar front, and what better way to do it than with a disgression on my script for issue #1.

For those of you who don’t have a clue who Cougar is, and therefore clearly haven’t trawled through my archived posts, he’s a robotic adventurer who began life as the mascot for the TFAuctions website, and has since gathered a supporting cast and is now on the verge of his very own comic book series. F

or some teaser images, check out Cougar’s dedicated website here.

Right, the script fror issue #1. Big question for me was: what differentiates Cougar from certain, um, other robots with the ability to swap from upright bipedal to vehicular form? Well, Cougar’s very much more in the adventurer/explorer/daredevil mould than a warrior (though, as we discover in issue #1, that wasn’t always the case!!) and he’s a lone wolf, actively discouraging sidekicks and the like (more of that in issue #2). He spends much of issue #1, despite some severe provocation, finding ways to avoid a full on firefight, relying more on guile and misdirection and general artifice and less on trading shots with the locals. He’s all about the payoff, be it a rare artefact or a long-buried secret or some valuable salvage, and he kind of specializes in extracting said items from the most dangerous, inclement and plainly inhospitable bits of the universe. He’s pretty mercenary in his attitude, but, as he expresses in the first issue, he “either gets out clean or doesn’t get out at all.”

In issue #1, after one opening foray into the unknown (which is kind of linked to what comes next), Cougar goes in search of a semi-mythical battle helmet, but there’s much more to it than… no, wait, it’s not what it seems, and Cougar’s torrid past comes rushing up to say ‘hi.’ We also meet Cougar’s main ‘big bad’ in the shape of Fenrir (albeit briefly), get a look in at Cougar’s hidden base on Earth (and meet shapeshifting ‘Sid’) and check out Cougar’s somewhat unpredictable spacegoing vessel. Oh, and we’ve got a very talented newcomer onboard for the art duties, whose stuff is just going to blow you away (very excited about what we’ve seen so far). More on him (and his pages) in future blog entries.

We’re looking right now at a late 07 or early 08 launch. Keep checking back here for further updates as stuff gets nailed down.

Transformers Comic NewsA few days ago Simon Furman updated his blog with information ragarding a web-comic based on the TFAuctions Transformers character Cougar.

What began as a humble mascot for Transformers auction website, TFAuctions, is about to explode into the worlds of Web and comics. Cougar, the roving robotic dealer in all things rare and perilous, is set for his own dedicated website and a monthly comic series, both of which will introduce Cougar (in full) and his all-new cast of characters.

Cougar himself hit the Web a year or so back, co-created by myself, artist Guido Guidi and TFAuctions webmaster David Ravenscroft. He got an alt. mode, a full bio and now he’s got the lot, including arch nemesis Fenrir and (sort of) sidekick Kick-Start. Cougar’s official website is due to go live any time now, and the comic incarnation is set to hit in late 07 (with scripts by me). In meantime, click on the images below for a taster.

There’s a new one of Cougar himself and a first look at Fenrir. Keep checking back in for further updates over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Transformers Comic NewsTFAuctions have finally announced their co-operative competition with Hasbro UK. The competition gives you the chance to design a re-colour of one of the existing Alternator Transformers!

As one of the selected sites, we shall be uploading our images later this afternoon (around 13:30 GMT). Here are the details

"Competition time again, this time Hasbro.co.uk and TFAuctions.com have teamed up with a host of sites to bring some interest back to the Alternators range (not that it's needed).

TFwire.com, Allspark.com, Transformers @ The Moon.co.uk and TFormers.com have all joined in on this great competition and are giving it their full backing, our thanks go out to the guys on all sites for their time and interest in this comp.

This competition is split up into four sections, each of the four websites have been given 3 blank Alternator images to host from their site. All you have to do is go to your desired site copy or download your chosen image or images and re-colour them in anyway you feel fit. This is an open contest so anyone can enter, you can use anything you wish to re-colour them and also enter as many times as you like. Note: *Please allow each website involved 24 hours to upload their images.*

Once you have coloured your images send them to comp@tfauctions.com along with your name and age. We will then pass all entries on to Hasbro who will make a decision, we will then announce the winner on December 23rd 2006.

Maybe Hasbro are looking for ideas for the Alternators line to revamp it? Maybe you have an idea that might swing them, or maybe if this competition shows good interest they will decide to continue one of the best lines to date?

There will be 1 winner and 2 runners up. The winning entry will receive a mystery box filled with all manner of Hasbro goodness. The 2 runners up will each receive some smaller random Hasbro items.

The winning site will also receive a little present as well so support your site and start colouring today!

All the entries will be shown on our sister site www.cougarhq.com after December 23rd 2006.

Thanks to Tyler for the hook up with the images.

Enjoy the comp.
