Full Metal Hero's Stripe (or Minon to Transformers At The Moon members) has gotten his hands on the BotCon exclusive Hunt for the Decepticons Voyager Sea Spray repaint of Shattered Glass Otcopunch, and posted a pictorial review. Click here to view the rest of Stripe's images and read his review of the figure
Early warning for the review - Octopunch is my favourite Transformer and has been since I got my paws on him as a child, so expect some biased love for this toy.
I've wait 20+ years for a new Octopunch toy and whilst i'll openly admit that I wasn't blown away by this interpretation at first, having the toy in hand is perhaps the most excited i've been for a Transformer in years.
This is the third time we've seen this mold, and if you don't love it by now then you've likely already made up your mind about this figure. If you took the lunge on Seaspray and Deep Dive then you'll know what to expect and it really comes down to character and colour choice.
The colours on the toy are much better than early images suggested, and whilst the green of the hovercraft ring isn't what I would call 'Octopunch green', the use of blue, yellow and purple is really nice. Paint apps are decent, with only a few little missed bits here and there. One half of the crotch plate is missing the blue though. If you take the view that Shattered Glass figures can ignore traditional colours schemes, then the one chosen for Ock is perfectly acceptable and very cool in its own right.
I've grown especially fond of the head, and whilst I completely understand the calls for a new one, the blue breathing aparatus (like on the G1 pretender's chest) over the purple helmet really does have that Octopunch feel to it.
Transformation is smooth and easy (and yes I know I mistransformed the shoulder plates in some photos - I was too excited to have my Ock figure), and joints are reasonably tight. Overall the quality of the toy from a construction point of view is easily comparable to Seaspray and Deep Dive, and the firing missile launchers work fine.
My only real gripe is that the peg for the missile launcher is a bit too tight for him to hold them in his hand, although they fit on the forearm pegs just fine. The back plate where the deck of the hovercraft folds up is also a little finnicky at the bottom hinge and takes some effort to lock in correctly.
Octopunch is far from a must have for most fans, and anyone who already owns this mold has probably had their fix from it, but there is still something really special about him. Sure he's missing the tentacles, harpoon gun, crab chap and the pretender-ness of the G1 toy, but recent reimaginings over the past few years of Bludgeon, Skullgrin and Thunderwing have redecuated us in our expectations anyway. The little touches such as the tentacle decals on the chest, blue breathing mask and general coolness really sell the figure.
Dare I say - roll on a voyager sized Stranglehold?

Botcon have revealed the lead figure of the 2012 Invasion set, Ultra Magnus. Based on the Diaclone colours, and using the Reveal the Shield Laser Prime mold, Magnus will be another toy to split opinions, mainly due to the head.

Botcon Tweeted last night that "We are now 50% sold thru on Primus and 70% sold through on Golden Ticket packages. We doubled class size this year and still sold out fast!".
The Golden Tickets are priority passes that were last used at OTFCC 2003 and proved extremely controversial.
We will continue to update you with the latest Botcon news, though you can also use our exclusive "Other Sites News / In The News" section to stay up-to-date with news from 43 different websites from around the world.

Botcon 2012 registration went live, for attending packages, just before midnight UK time. Non-attendee packages are due to go live sometime next week. As well as putting the registrations live two small images were also published of the complete Botcon set which confirmed the molds of the rest of the figures. Metalhawk, as predicted, is a a recoloured classics Thunderwing with a new head sculpt whilst Ultra Magnus is a diaclone coloured G2 Optimus Prime.
Botcon have also tweeted some concept art of the Metalhawk head that can be seen in the additional images section below.

What a massive letdown ... BotCon have revealed Heroic Decepticon Treadshot, the toy we've personally been waiting for (as we're big fans of the original Action Master sculpt). The toy uses the Reveal the Shield Jazz mold, with a new head, in a Purple and Yellow colour scheme based on Transformers Armada Sideswipe and not the G1 Action Master.
Fun Publications has revealed that Metalhawk from the Classicsverse also sports a new head mold while Evil Autobot Ultra Magnus has "a surprise in store."

After several hours of waiting BotCon have released images of Shattered Glass Soundwave, complete with Cobra Dreadknock Zartan's face painted on the side. Zartan is representing the Cobra rock band Cold Slither.
Fun Publications have also announced that there will be a headband accessory available from the club store, and that it will not be fabric. They also confirm that they have modified the neck joint so that Shattered Glass Soundwave will be able to look forward, rather than always looking down as Classics Ironhide did.

BotCon have updated their Twitter account to remind people that the first Shattered Glass Heroic Decepticon will be revealved today. Most people are expecting it to be Soundwave, the white Classics Ironhide mold, though I'm wondering if they will through a curve ball and go for Treadshot? Probably not, as Sounwave's mold is already known.
BotCon 2012 toys
- SG Soundwave - White Classics Ironhide Mold - confirmed
- SG Ultra Magus - Diaclone coloured "Movie Preview" - Universe Laser Prime mold (mold confirmed)
- SG Treadshot - ? Classics Megatron mold ?
- SG Tracks - Red Universe Tracks mold
- Gigatron "Overlord" - Reveal the Shield Bludgeon mold
- Metal Hawk - ? Universe Thunderwing mold ?
Some other possibly toys, for the loose set and customising classes, are
- Slicer (or Shattered Glass Wheeljack) - Blue Universe Tracks mold (as one of the BotCon recolours)
- Re-use of Reveal the Shield Seapray mold ?
- Use of Dreadwind / Mindwipe mold
- What will be the Army builder set

Botcon have revealed their 2nd 2012 exclusive figure as the evil Tracks. We predicted the figure uses the Transformers Universe Tracks mold but is recoloured red like Road Rage, the E-Hobby exclusive figure. Tracks is from the Shattered Glass universe which is why he is an evil Autobot
Do not be surprised if you find a black version is also released as an additional toy at some stage. You can view the images below.

Fub Publications have sent out the following email notifications to all Botcon attendees as well as Club Members
To all BotCon attendees who are holding current reservations: There was a glitch in the hotel's reservation system as it was supposed to be taking one night's deposit when your made your reservation.
Per our contract with the hotel, they need to take this deposit by charging everyone's credit card for the first night's room and tax.
In order not to impact anyone's Christmas shopping, I have asked them to hold off making the charge until January 3, 2012.
In addition, this deposit will be refundable until April 9, 2012. If you cancel after April 9, 2012 your deposit will NOT be refunded.
If you are holding any rooms "in case someone needs them" we ask you to either turn the reservation over to another party, or to release them by January 2, 2012, as we still have other attendees who need to make room reservations. Again, all rooms being held will have a one night's deposit charged on January 3, 2012.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Thanks for your support,
Brian
