This months Japanese Hobby magazines come with a fresh and full look at the soon to be released Masterpiece Star Saber figure. The figure we expect to be released in a blackk redeco later to match the Robotmasters figure but the latest offers show the painted figure in various forms giving everyone the best look thus far at the toy.

The Facebook page for Gamestop has posted a link to a YouTube video of Drift from Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. Drift is from the Age of Extinction section of the game with the video showing another look at some of the gameplay aspects of the title. You can view the video velow!

This months Japanese hobby magazines are out and they contain new images of three Masterpieces.  First up we have the debut of Masterpiece Bumblebee in colour, then Ultra Magnus is revealed in more detail showing that the front cab will not transform into an individual robot form and finally we have the announcement that there will be a new re-colour of MP-10 Optimus Prime in the green camo of the Bathing Ape Convoy.  Check out the images below,

Anime News Network are reporting that it appears as if Takara Tomy are going to run a crossover series between Transformers and Evangelion with the Japanese company taking out adverts in this months hobby magazines which feature a preview of the story that the cross-over will be based on.

The idea is so obvious, it's amazing it took this long. Toy maker Takara Tomy has taken out ads in this month's hobby magazines showing Optimus Prime with a very familiar color scheme. The details of the Evangelion cross-over is still underwraps at this point, but the ad even includes its own "story":

The Angels are invading. Breaking a long silence, the mysterious life-forms known as the Angels suddenly appear. The weapons the UN forces gather together in retaliation can't even scratch them. In the end, they turn to the secret agency, NERV, to manage the anti-Angel strategy. With Neo-Tokyo 3 in their sights, the Angels slowly advance upon the city...but suddenly a spaceship comes hurtling down from the sky above the Angels: the Autobot Sky Lynx! Do you remember Transformers Universe? The MMORPG that had been in development since late 2011 / early 2012?  Perhaps you attended their Panel at Auto Assembly, well they are now sending out email updates to a press release by Mark Gerhard, CEO & CTO of Jagex, regarding the state of the game.  In the statement, Mr Gerhard states that the Jagex team have been refining their "vision, gameplay, tech and team to bring you what we believe will be the start of an entertaining, social and competitive game for all of you to enjoy over the next decade and beyond!".  He also confirms that the game will launch in the Summer with access to the beta version increasing over the coming months.

Youtube user kbigstonehas posted some rare footage that was recorded at the 1983 Tokyo Toy Show. This event is very important in the history of the Transformers line as it was at this show that representatives from Hasbro Inc spotted Takara's exhibit of both their Diaclone and Micro Change toy lines which started the process that lead to the creation of the Transformers.  Whilst the quality of the footage is not great in places, it does feature both of these Takara lines being displayed.

Todd Matthy has held an interview with the writer of the 1986 Transformers: The Movie, Ron Friedman, which he has posted onto his blog.  The interview coverd Friedman's approach to writing the movie script, reveals his reservations about killing off Optimus Prime and more. In the summer of 1986, children were traumatized when Optimus Prime sacrificed himself to stop his archrival, Megatron. But it wasn’t Megatron who pulled the trigger, it was a writer named Ron Friedman.

Ron Friedman wrote Transformers: The Movie. He wrote the five-part miniseries that launched GI Joe. He is close friends with Stan Lee and helped Stan develop The Marvel Action Hour, featuring Iron Man and Fantastic Four. He has written episodes of All in the Family, Happy Days, and Fantasy Island. In addition to his writing credentials, Ron is an architect and a teacher at Chapman University.

In 2014, Ron plans to chronicle his experiences as a writer in the memoir, I Killed Optimus Prime. The book promises a fascinating look behind the scenes of the shows that defined our childhood.

I had the privilege of speaking with Ron about his career, his friendship with Stan Lee, what he thought when he first saw the Transformers, how Orson Welles became Unicron, and why he didn’t want to kill Optimus Prime.

So, to kick off the 30th Anniversary of the Transformers, Ron Friedman, the man who killed Optimus Prime.
