Older NewsThe TF Writers also sat down with ComingSoon.net for an interview. Again the full article can be read here but here are some snipits.

"'Transformers' is very tricky, because it's a movie based on a toy line," Kurtzman told us, when asked about how hard it might be to turn the Hasbro toys into a feature film. "The first question you have to ask yourself is what's the movie? We sat down with Steven Spielberg, and we said that the action scenes in this movie are a given, but he said that that it's the story of a boy and his car and that he wants to bring back the old Amblin movies. It's 'Back to the Future'great! We're in! It's a real challenge, because the key to making those movies work--and I totally think it's why 'War of the Worlds' works so well--is to be so invested in the people and to maintain the subjectivity of the humans. If you start 'Transformers' with giant robots sitting in a spaceship flying through space, your movie is dead in the water. It's all about keeping it at a human level, and seeing the amazing things that are going on through the eyes of the characters."

"The staple characters: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, Starscream, Jazz," Kurtzman replied. "There's going to be a lot of them. You're going to have ten Transformers in that movie, and if that's not enough, you can go see 2, 3, 4 or 5."

"The meat and potatoes are going to be in there," writing partner Roberto Orci continued. "We're just missing the premise for the sequels."

Older NewsKurtzman and Orci, the writers for the TF Movie, spoke breifly with IGN Filmforce. You can read the full article here, but here are some extracts.

"Right now, we're thinking there will be five Autobots and five Decepticons," says Kurtzman. "But you know the ones everybody knows like Optimus Prime and Megatron and Starscream and Soundwave and Bumblebee. Arcee is gonna be in it."

We're in the middle of writing it. There's nothing that came before it, it's a movie that's based on a toy line, so the trick with that movie was again figuring out, 'Okay, what's the character story here, because the action scenes are a given, so what is this story really going to be about?' We spent some time with Steven Spielberg talking about that, and Michael (Bay) may direct it, which would be, I think, perfect in a lot of ways."

"At this point we're not sure, but I think there will be a lot of CGI." Both Kurtzman and Orci said that, for now, that won't play an effect on their script.

The fan expectations also play a part for the writers as they shape the story. "It is hovering for me," says Orci. "We're trying to come up with the story that you would come up with if there was no pressure, and then sort of go, 'Okay, we have to be vigilant of fans and what is good about the source material and what is truly necessary.'"

When asked whether the voice cast could include Hollywood A-listers, Kurtzman says he's not sure. "I don't know that I think it does [need to have them], but I also can see a version that does have big name stars [for] the voices."

Both writers were fans of the shows and the toys. "[We've got] All the comics and we've got an office full of toys," says Kurtzman.

Transformers Movie NewsTo try to clarify things for the people that paniced at Sundays TF:Movie news Don Murphy has posted some more comments on his message board that should eleviate any fears people may have.

What is happening on Transformers is what happens on films ALL THE TIME. Steven Spielberg, Dreamworks, Hasbro and I are committed to making a GREAT TF film. We'd rather not make an okay one. And so it is taking longer than we hoped to get off the launch pad. We still will launch. It will be GREAT and then we will make sequel after sequel.

There is no doubt that this is true. I just like to share with you guys the blips and the crannies- but the film itself is not in the slightest peril.

Older NewsA little late we know but back on the 30th June, Takara purchased an 88% share in Tatsunoko Productions in a deal estimated to be worth over 1 billion yen (US$8.9 million). Takara recently made trade news when it was announced that on March 1st 2006, they would merge with Tomy to create Japan's 4th largest "game and toy maker" behind only Sega Sammy Holdings, Namco Bandai Holdings (un-confirmed name) and Nintendo corp. Currently, Takara is ranked 5th in that market and is also the 2nd largest Toy manufacturer in Japan, behind only Bandai. Takara also owns Broccoli, which in turns owns North American anime distributor Synch-Point and Japanese anime retailer Gamers.

The Japan Times quoted unnamed sources as stating that Takara wants to create toys and software using Tatsunoko properties.

Following the annoucement, it was reported that Takara's stocks increased by almost 10% and they have stated that they hopes to increase sales at Tatsunoko from 600 million yen to 5 billion yen in 3 years.
