It didn't quiet make it into the 7-7 update, but you can now find 280 photographs (minimum of 1000, several at over 2000 pixels) which we took during the
Hasbro Tour at BotCon 2007. The images include concept artwork for the Transformers Movie designs, early concepts through to production colour sheets for Transformers Cybertron Optimus Prime, prototype and testshot images, with colour sheets for several un-released Transformers Movie items.
Various high-resolution shots of Transformers testshots as well as lots of images of the Unreleased G1 Optimus Prime Voice-changer helmet and other Transformers toys which have not, many will not ever, be released. These toys include Toxitron, Titanium Arcee, Cosmos, Bumblebee / Cliffjumper and lots more.
You may have seen some
images from the tour, but not from a 9 megapixel camera!

Following on from the earlier 200 images we took at BotCon, you can now find an additional 112 images taken from the
Hasbro booth. Some of these images are extremely large, 2000 pixles wide, so if you're on dial-up you may have an issue.

Hasbro have finally applied for a
new trademark with the USPTO and you'd be forgiven for not noticing. The application, which was sent to the USPTO back on the 21st June, was for the mark
TRANSFORMERS but written in the movie style font and all across one line. You can view the mark, that is the image as well as all of the information, in our
Transformers Trademarks area.
In related news the
1986 Hasbro trademark for Ultra Magnus has now been cancelled by the USPTO. Hasbro have never refiled for this mark, so it will be interesting to see if they file for a further 10 year extension, submit a new application or simply leave the mark.

July 7th is a day of remembrance here in the UK as two years ago to the day was the day of the London bombings. For us, this day has greater significance, as on July 7th 2006 Brett Reynolds (Toughboot aka 'Jammie Jammie', Primus over at Auto Assembly) passed away. Its hard to think that a year has already gone by, and we still wonder what Brett would have made of the finished Transformers movie.
As part of the launch of Version 8 of Transformers At The Moon, we made the logo of our Transformers In The Media area an image of the article that Brett wrote for Forbidden Planet magazine (you'll find the whole article inside).
So whilst you're reading up on the latest happenings in the Transformers community, please spare a not only Brett, but all those who are no longer with us to share in this special year and month for the Transformers brand

Though by now you have no doubt already seen plenty of images from BotCon 2007, we have uploaded our first two image galleries, over 200 images, from the event last weekend. The image galleries include 97 images of the custom and fan art entries and 118 general convention images. These won't be the last image galleries we put up from the event, as we still have the Hasbro Tour and Hasbro toy display, not to mention all of the images of the toys that we purchased from the event. Stay tuned for those as well as our coverage of the panels and Hasbro tour as we still need to transcribe three to four hours of video and audio recordings from the convention.

The Campaign for
a Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC) have called on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
to expand their investigation of the marketing of violent entertainment
to children to include PG-13 movies. This responses comes over they (the CCFC) have cited "the widespread and irresponsible marketing
of the PG-13
Transformers movie to preschoolers".

Transformers Marketing: More than Meets the Eye
Hasbro, DreamWorks Target Preschoolers with Violent PG-13 Movie;
CCFC calls for FTC Probe
Citing the widespread and irresponsible marketing
of the PG-13 Transformers movie to preschoolers, the Campaign for
a Commercial-Free Childhood called on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
to expand their investigation of the marketing of violent entertainment
to children to include PG-13 movies. The film, which opens on July 4,
2007, was rated PG-13 for “intense sequences of sci-fi action violence,
brief sexual humor, and language” by the Motion Picture Association of
America (MPAA). A review by CCFC found more than one hundred
Transformers’ toys for children under six; Transformer
promotions by Kraft and Burger King clearly aimed at young children; and
advertisements for the movie on children’s television programming rated
appropriate for kids as young as two.
“It is extremely disappointing that Hasbro and
DreamWorks would choose to promote a film to preschool children that the
industry deems inappropriate for anyone under the age of thirteen,” said
CCFC’s Dr. Susan Linn, author of Consuming Kids. “In their
cynical attempt to wring every last dollar from one of this summer’s
blockbusters, these companies have shown little regard for children’s
well-being or parents’ desires to limit their children’s exposure to
violent entertainment.”
Every single one of the
one hundred and twenty-nine Hasbro Transformers toys
reviewed by CCFC came with a recommended age younger than thirteen.
Seventy-two of these products (56%) are recommended for children as
young as five; an additional thirty-two toys (25%) are recommended for
children as young as four; thirteen toys (10%) are recommended for
children as young as three. A toy promotion at Burger King is also for
children three and up.
“The sheer volume of toys aimed at preschoolers is
likely to deceive parents into believing that the film is appropriate
for young children,” said Dr. Linn. “Since every Transformers toy
is an ad for a PG-13 movie, the toys should carry a similar rating.”
CCFC also found advertising for the Transformer
movie, toys, and Burger King promotion during children’s programming
on the Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Over the past thirteen months,
the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) – the advertising
industry’s self-appointed watchdog – has found advertising for five
different PG-13 films during children’s television programming, but no
disciplinary action was announced. Because CARU is unwilling or unable
to stop the marketing of violent PG-13 movies to young children, CCFC is
calling on the FTC to intervene.
“As long as there are millions of dollars to be
made by advertising PG-13 movies to young children, the film industry
will continue to ignore CARU’s recommendations,” said CCFC’s Dr. Allen
Kanner. “This is just the latest indication that decades of
self-regulation has failed. If we really want media companies to stop
marketing violent entertainment to children, we need a regulatory body
that has the authority to actually enforce its own regulations.”
Since 2000, the FTC has issued regular reports on
the marketing of violent entertainment to children. Those reports,
however, only examine the marketing plans of R-rated movies. In a
letter sent today to FTC Chairperson Deborah Platt Majoras, CCFC urged
the Commission to:
-
Expand
its investigation of marketing violent entertainment to include the
targeting of PG-13 movies to younger children.
-
Launch
an investigation of the blatant and irresponsible marketing of
Transformers to preschool children through toys, food promotions
and television advertising.
-
Work
with the media and toy industries to establish a consistent set of
ratings for toys and the media they are based on and to establish
clear, enforceable guidelines for the marketing of PG-13 movies.

The Robot Replica figures are now in at Toys R Us. These are the non-transforming action figures and the first wave consists of Bumblebee, Barricade and Megatron. They are very similar to the Star Wars unleashed figures, only poseable.

Speculation has started that the Transformers Movie may well have broken even (it had running costs of $150 million dollars), and reports from BoxOfficeMOjo are reporting $121 million dollar takings in the US and overseas. The Transformers Movie hasn't been released yet in many territories, but the good takings could mean a worldwide release for the second Transformers Movie .. that is if there is a second.

You may, or may not, be aware that there are at least three different versions of the Botcon 2007 Games of Deception boxset, of of which appear to be accidental. The differences revolve around Dirge's weapons. In one set, Dirge has the correct weapons, where as in the other two sets he either has two left or two right guns. There is no word as to how many of each version went out to attendees, we have both the correct weapons and a boxed set with two left weapons. We do not know if this is true for the bagged toy.
