According to the latest batch of stats from the NPD Group, toy sales within the US have increased by almost three percent in the first half of 2007, up from $7.8 billion to over $8 billion. However sales of Action Figures & Accessories saw a 4% drop in sales over the same period in 2006. "
It's obvious that the new product innovations we've been seeing in the
toy industry have had a positive impact on overall toy industry sales,"
said Anita Frazier, industry analyst for the NPD Group. "
Based on NPD's
research, parents believe toys are more interesting and stimulating
than ever. Taking this into account, along with strong sales during the
first half of the year, the industry is heading into the all-important
back half of the year in a very strong position."

Cinematical are running an article regarding the arrest of a 19th year old who was caught filming the Transformers movie, here's the copy of the main portion of the article
On July 17th, Marymount University sophomore Jhannet Sejas was celebrating her 19th birthday with her boyfriend at a screening of Transformers.
Sejas, a Bolivian immigrant working two part-time jobs to support her
education, was loving the flick. She wanted to show her little brother
a clip from the film to get him excited to see it, so she took out her
digital camera and recorded 20 seconds of the climax. The assistant
manager of the theater saw her use the camera and reported it to the
general manager. The general manager decided to bypass such reasonable
steps as a) asking her never to record in the theater again, b) asking
her to erase the footage or c) asking her to leave the theater, and
simply telephoned the police. Within minutes, two police officers
entered the theater, confiscated the camera, and charged Sejas with the
crime of "illegally recording a motion picture."
Sejas says "I
was terrified. I was crying. I've never been in trouble before." Sejas
has been banned from the theater (where she frequently paid for and
viewed films) for life, and she has to go to trial for the incident
this month. She faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
The Regal Cinemas Ballston Common 12 Theater decided to prosecute the
case, which is a first for Arlington police. Kendrick Macdowell,
general counsel for the Washington-based National Association of
Theatre Owners, says that there has to be a "zero-tolerance policy at
the theater level," adding "We cannot educate theater managers to be
judges and juries in what is acceptable. Theater managers cannot
distinguish between good and bad stealing."

Its been a little while since our last news update regarding the Transformers trademarks, so unless you have been checking our extensive Transformers Trademarks area here at Transformers At The Moon, you've probably not read anything on trademarks for a couple of months. Well there have been two updates recently that we thought we should mention, the first if that the
mark for RAZORCLAW looks set to be renewed under section 8 and section 9, which relates to the 10-year usage. You can view the latest details on this application
here. The
second mark to be updated is for WRECK-GAR. This mark have now expired (under section 8 and section 9). Again, you can view the latest details
here.

Talk Transformers have an article highlighting the slightly different packaging variations for Transformers Movie Bumblebee (Camaro 08 version). The differences are purely in the cut / positioning of the bubble. You have to love the detail which the trained Transformers collector will find.
You can see the images

After taking a little break to cover the Simpson toys,
eBay is back on the Transformers bandwagon, advertising the Transformers section on the homepage of it's American site. The focus today is on a repaint / kitbash of the Lead class Optimus Prime toy, recoloured to look more like Optimus Prime from the actual Transformers Movie.
It will be interesting to see how long Transformers remains in the "main stream".
